The Assembly House · Theatre Street, Norwich

Georgian grandeur.
Your story inside it.

The Assembly House is one of the most extraordinary wedding venues in Norfolk. A Grade I listed Georgian mansion on Theatre Street — chandeliers, natural light, and rooms that have been hosting celebrations since 1754.

Why this venue is special

The most beautiful
wedding venue
in Norfolk.

The Assembly House is one of those venues that does the work for you. Designed by architect Thomas Ivory in 1754, it's a Grade I listed Georgian mansion sitting right in the heart of Norwich. The chandeliers alone could make anyone emotional.

The light in the Music Room is extraordinary. Tall windows, high ceilings, ornate architrave — because it sits at the centre of the building, the quality of light shifts beautifully throughout the day. For a documentary photographer, it's a gift.

I blend in at venues like this. While the room is doing its thing — the chandeliers, the flowers, the candlelight — I'm watching the edges. The look between you during the speeches. Your dad adjusting his buttonhole three times because he's nervous. Your nan's face when you walk in. My ADHD means I notice everything — especially the things happening when nobody's watching the camera.

On the day

What shooting at
the Assembly House looks like.

01

The morning — bridal prep

Room One is one of the most talked-about bridal prep spaces in Norfolk. Marble bathroom, enough room for 25 people getting ready — and still space for a photographer. Mid-morning light in a room like that is a documentary photographer's dream.

02

The ceremony — Music Room

The Music Room's Georgian windows flood the space with natural light. No flash during the ceremony — just honest window light falling on real moments. I'm already watching the faces of your guests before you walk in.

03

The reception — Noverre Room

Crystal chandeliers, polished wooden floor, and French doors onto the secret garden. In the evening the candlelight and chandeliers create extraordinary warm tones. The dancefloor here photographs itself.

Why it works

A venue this extraordinary needs
a photographer who keeps up.

The Assembly House does the heavy lifting with the architecture and the light. My job is to stay out of the way and catch what's actually happening. That means no shouted instructions, no stopping the day for setups, and no missing the small moments while I'm busy arranging the big ones. The chandeliers will look after themselves. I'll be watching your nan on the dancefloor.

Common questions

Assembly House
wedding photography FAQ.

Yes — the Assembly House is at the top of my list for Norwich venues. I'm based on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and cover Norwich with no travel fees. From everything I know about the building — the rooms, the light, the layout — it's exactly the kind of venue my style of photography is built for.
Packages start from £790 for 3-hour coverage. Full day packages from £1450 to £1950 with no hidden extras and full UK travel included. See all packages and what's included. No surprise invoices, ever.
The Music Room is outstanding for morning ceremonies — the Georgian window light is extraordinary. The Noverre Room photographs beautifully in the evening with the chandeliers. Room One (the bridal suite) is one of the best prep spaces in Norfolk if you get the light right mid-morning. The secret garden through the Noverre's French doors is perfect for golden hour portraits.
My approach is candid and documentary. I'll take you somewhere quiet during drinks reception for a relaxed 15-minute couple portrait session — low-key, nothing forced. A venue like the Assembly House makes that easy. Everything else is natural and unposed. If you're anxious about being photographed, read this first.
Absolutely. See the full Norwich wedding photography page for a guide to venues including Norwich Castle, The Georgian Townhouse, The Flint Rooms, Voewood and more. No travel fees anywhere in Norfolk.
