The Georgian Townhouse · Unthank Road, Norwich

Norwich's best
kept secret.

The Georgian Townhouse is one of those Norwich venues that surprises people. Hidden in plain sight on Unthank Road — characterful, relaxed, genuinely beautiful. Exactly the kind of day I love to photograph.

Why this venue is special

Intimate. Characterful.
Completely itself.

The Georgian Townhouse isn't trying to be a grand country house. It's something better — a genuinely characterful Norwich pub and hotel with deep blue walls, fairy lights, a glasshouse bar and an enormous walled garden that feels completely removed from the city outside.

The Pembroke Room is licensed for ceremonies and opens directly onto a private courtyard and enclosed garden. Up to 60 guests for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, 100 for the evening — which means every person in that room matters. There's nowhere to hide and nothing to miss.

For a documentary photographer, an intimate venue like this is where the work gets really good. My ADHD means I notice everything — the small shifts, the look between the two of you during the speeches, the guest who's been holding it together all day and finally lets go during the first dance. In a room this size, I catch all of it.

On the day

What shooting at
the Georgian Townhouse looks like.

01

The ceremony — Pembroke Room

Deep blue walls, fairy lights, glasshouse bar alongside. The Pembroke Room has a warmth and intimacy that bigger venues can't replicate. Natural light from the glasshouse side makes for beautiful ceremony coverage without any flash.

02

The garden — drinks and portraits

The walled garden is one of the best features of this venue. Guests spill out through the courtyard, the BBQ fires up, and there's enough space to disappear for a relaxed 15-minute couple portrait session while the party starts without you.

03

The evening — intimate and loud

When 100 people fill the Pembroke Room for the evening, it gets properly atmospheric. The fairy lights, the low ceilings, the energy of everyone crammed in together — this is where the best photos happen. I'll already be in position before it kicks off.

Why it works

Small wedding. Big feeling.
You need a photographer who gets that.

With 60 guests maximum in the Pembroke Room, there's nowhere to hide and nothing to miss. That's exactly where my approach to photography is at its best. No shouted instructions, no stopping the day for setups. I blend into the room, move with the energy, and catch what's actually happening — especially the things happening when nobody knows I'm watching.
